Mitch and I purchased our first camcorder on August 14, 2003. We exchanged the Canon something for the Sony Handycam DCR-TVR 33 on August 23 in preparation for our first child's arrival. My due date was August 24 so we did not have much time to spare. In the end, we did as Max arrived on August 31 and we caught some of his first moments with our fantastic Handycam (although I always tell Mitch he didn't capture enough!). This past Sunday, August 15, 2010, our trusty, beloved Handycam began having some issues. Tonight, it flashed E61:10 which according to the book means "a malfunction that you cannont service has occurred." This Handycam was everything it was reviewed to be "The $799 DCR-TRV33 is the high end of the Sony entry level 2003 MiniDV camcorders. The DCR-TRV33 produces impressive looking video and does a good job in low light situations" (thanks camcorderinfo.com) and more. Never did we want for anything else (except for it to be compatible to Windows Vista or maybe we wanted to not have Windows Vista).Tonight though, we had to find a replacement - school starts tomorrow, Max's birthday party on Saturday and Barbara, Christian, Caroline and Franziska arrive from Germany in a week. Lots to capture on film. Funny how the timing is so near the celebration of Max's birthday.
We are now the owners of a Sony Handycam DCR-SX44. I know little to nothing about this video camera and went with a pretty basic model. This was such an uncharacteristic purchase for me - no review, rather impulse, looked one place. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do. I'm crossing my fingers that my first electronic purchase with no research doesn't hurt me. Time will tell. If nothing else, it's blue, I'll capture our upcoming events and it cost me a lot less than the one in 2003 with more features!
